The Cat Art Show, (created by CatCon’s Susan Michals and produced in association with Daniel Salin) returns for another year at the Think Tank Gallery in downtown LA, with some serious cattitude towards diversity, gender, religion, social media and sushi!
The show, which runs June 14 to June 28, will exhibit over 140 feline themed works by 100 renowned and emerging international artists. The roster will reflect a diverse variety of cat breeds including Maine Coons, Russian Blues, Siamese and Tabbies depicted across a range of media such as painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, collage and embroidery. There will also be a special, multi-sensory activation “Purrvana” that will combine cat purrs with color in a lounge environment throughout the duration of the exhibition.
This year’s show focuses on current social and political issues with works directly targeting the President and pop culture icons as well as topical issues surrounding identity politics. Artists featured include Mark Ryden, Devon Shimoyama, Tasya Van Ree, Ellen von Unwerth, and Casey Weldon.
There are also some exciting special events being held including an Opening Night VIP event with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, Feline Frolic: an evening of feline history, Purrlesque: a lecture by participating artist Dr. Paul Koudounaris and burlesque PURRformances by Vanessa Burgundy and Iza la Vamp and closing night Kitty Cuddle Party in association with Kitten Rescue in which there will be adorable kittens up for adoption on site!
Attending the show is also a great way to help cats in need, with a portion of proceeds going to cat related organizations and 10% of all Kitty Cuddle Party sales going to Kitten Rescue!
