The Ontario provincial legislature has heard a petition to ban declawing cats. Presented by Ontario MPP Sarah Campbell, the petition has been spearheaded by Camille Cox, an animal rights activist in Ontario.

“What many people don’t realize is that the process of declawing isn’t actually removing the claw, it involves the amputation of a cat’s toes,” Campbell notes. She has worked with other community activists to bring attention to the issue.  Cats who undergo the procedure often have serious behaviour issues that can harm their ability to find forever homes. Cox collected signatures for a petition, which was then presented by Campbell.
