Meet Daniel

The DSH, red/white, polydactyl
Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center Milwaukee, WI

In October 2011, Daniel was transferred to the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center from a high-kill animal control agency for care and placement. At that time, the Center had just learned that their lease terms would not be renewed effective January 2012.

Daniel, a stunning polydactyl with 26 toes (two extra on each paw) challenged the community to donate $1/toe to help the Center raise funds to purchase a permanent property!

Over 3,000 donors assisted and raised over $120,000 in 8 weeks! The Center was able to place a down payment on a property - the remaining funds were placed in a restricted account to be used for renovations and for mortgage payments.

The Center opened in May 2012 and is doing well...thanks to Daniel!

We saved him...he saved the Center...and now, together, we will save lives for many years to come! Daniel is now the mascot for the Center. He enjoys greeting visitors, socializing shy cats, and serving the community!
