You Don’t Want To Miss This Heartwarming Meowmoir

Growing up in every hotel in and around Carnegie Hall in mid-town Manhattan, Fern Field Brooks didn’t share her young life with many cats or kittens.  However she does remember one kitty when she was about 9 or 10 years old and studying the piano (Fern, not the kitten). Apparently this little feline loved music.  Or rather, she loved one segment of a Schubert Waltz.  Whenever Fern was about to reach the high note at the end of the piece – the kitten would appear, sit at Fern’s feet, look up and listen as Fern played the finale of the waltz. It didn’t happen once or twice.  It happened every time Fern, or even her mother, would play that Schubert Waltz ending.  Remembering it makes her smile to this day.

But it wasn’t until the early 60s when Fern’s 8-year-old step-daughter placed a little black ball of fur into the palm of her hand that Fern really learned how a pet can change and heal your life.

That story is the basis for the Destiny Trilogy which spans from 1963 to 1979. Titled THEY CALL ME DESTINY – From a gutter in the Bronx, to a fancy condo in Manhattan, and weekends in the Hamptons, Book 1 recounts the first year in the life of this extraordinary kitten and the young woman who adopted her.

Book 2 – is titled DESTINY’S CHILDREN – Surviving childbirth, menopaws and divorce.  Not mine – Fern’s!” Need we say more?!

Book 3 is titled DESTINY MOVES TO LaLa LAND – OMG! She’s moving us to California!  The final book underscores the trepidation most New Yorkers had about California in those days and Destiny, having grown up in the trendy neighborhood of Sutton Place South was no exception.
