Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office
After TV cameras caught rats scurrying through the corridors of 10 Downing Street (official residence of the UK Prime Minister), a call was put out to venerable London animal welfare organization Battersea Dogs and Cats Home for a “good mouser”. Shortly thereafter, Larry the Cat joined the civil service and found his forever home after starting life as a tough street cat. With the official title of Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office, Larry has adapted to his new cushy accommodations, entertaining President Obama and napping on antique furniture. Larry is the latest in a long line of UK feline bureaucrats, with mousers being employed at Number 10 since 1929.
